The “All On 4” is a dental implant technique that is generally recommended for people who suffer from a failing dentition and rampant tooth loss as a result of advanced periodontal (gum) disease. This protocol was innovated by Dr. Paulo Malo, an internationally respected European implantologist who is also the founder and CEO of the MALO CLINIC Lisbon, Portugal.
“All On 4” dental implants have revolutionized the way oral specialists approach the treatment of patients who have lost most or all of their teeth. It also boasts benefits and advantages that surpass not only traditional teeth replacement technologies, such as removable dentures, but also traditional dental implant techniques.
“All on 4” implants are regarded as the standard of care for patients in need of new teeth and our team of skilled and experienced implant dentists and prosthodontists; specifically Dr. Alan Wolcott who takes great pride in being able to offer this breakthrough protocol at our All On Implants office.
How does the “All On 4” Work?
Very simply! You will first see Dr. Wolcott for your complimentary screening during which your medical history will be reviewed, any necessary 3D X-rays taken, and a clinical examination of your teeth and jaws done. From all this, a detailed treatment plan will be devised.
“All On Four” Dental Implant Surgery
The procedure itself involves the surgical placement of four dental implants in regions of your jaw that are naturally bulky and contain more atrophy resistant bone tissue. The arrangement and angulation of these implants is crucial because many of the patients we see here at All On Implants have been toothless or have worn traditional removable dentures for many, many years. As a result, they have lost a large amount of jawbone volume to atrophy. Since dental implants function like natural teeth, they too require adequate bone volume to remain stable and supported, which is why we determine their exact positioning very carefully.
Once these four implants have been placed – our resident restorative dentist – will take over and come to attach your first bridge which is a healing bridge that allows you and Dr. Wolcott to evaluate and improve your final smile. Your first bridge is made from a combination of materials, including durable acrylics or ceramic. These are built for speed and comfort! Once you are content with the fit and feel of your new teeth, you will be free to return home to a light supper and a night’s rest.
Post Operative Recovery
Over the next few weeks, you’ll be required to take it easy and eat a diet of soft foods so as to permit your jawbone as good a chance of healing as possible. When you come back for your follow-up appointment, Dr. Wolcott will check the fit and plan for your dental bridge.
